Kara Reid

Kara Reid, a twenty-five-year-old photographer of America’s forgotten history. Born and raised in Maryland, she found herself drawn to abandoned buildings when she discovered an abandoned house on the outskirts of her neighborhood and found herself picking up a point and shoot camera not long after. After a few months, she found out about an entire hospital complex about an hour away, Henryton. After months of begging, her dad and brother finally caved and took the hour drive and mile long trek through the woods with her so she could photograph the hospital.

Since then, she’s spent the last five years driving up and down the east coast with her Sony a7iii. She tries to capture these buildings in a lighting that gives the viewer the opportunity to see the details of these decaying structures, along with a glimpse into how these buildings looked in their prime. She also wants to bring attention to the fact of just how wasteful we can be with our own history and culture and hopes one day to see these beautiful buildings back in use and serving the communities in which they reside.
